Most of what we sell we grow ourselves but we do broker plants from other licensed and inspected nurseries and growers that we know as well, especially for our online and mail order plants sales.
Outback Growers is exactly what our name says…we grow our plants outback! In other words we are a local back yard nursery that started out as a hobby and as a means to supply our “habit”. Yes, we admit it…we are addicted gardeners and plant-a-holics. We indulge daily and there is no cure that we know of.
Our first sales were in my driveway every spring and fall with only “Plant Sale” signs stuck on the corner and in the yard directing people to the sale. These sales turned out to be traffic stopping events and got bigger and bigger until they finally out-grew my yard and driveway.
People started coming by every day whether we had a sign out or not and we quickly realized there was a big demand for affordable, quality landscape garden plants. So we debated on whether to open a full service garden center or take our business online and eventually decided online might be the wisest choice in today’s economy.
We discovered that when people are looking for where to buy garden plants, most of them searched online and usually ended up ordering their plants by mail online (because of the money savings) when they could find a reputable local nursery that offered garden plants online.
Of course we’ll still do our special Springtime sales for our local customers but we’ll no longer be selling to the public locally on a daily basis.
We sell mostly unique, hard to find heirloom and old fashioned plants, the ones you may remember seeing in your mother’s or your grandmother’s flower garden. Those are our favorites but occasionally we offer some of the newer patented plants too.
To keep up with supply and demand we also enlist the help of other licensed and inspected growers who meet the same standards we do with our plants. We promise to meet or exceed your expectations when it comes to receiving high quality and affordable plants.
We grow our plants from cuttings taken from our own stock plants in the summer months. Typically these plants will be gallon size and 1-2 years old.
See availability list for size, description and care of each plant.
I’ve found “plant people” to be wonderful people, some of the nicest people in the world and we love our customers. We truly would like to earn your business and have you become one of our special, preferred customers.
And we also love helping new gardeners. With our know-how and encouragement we can turn a brown thumb green in no time at all.
So whether you’re a plant-a-holic like us or maybe you are simply looking for a few affordable plants to landscape your property we can help you. Tell us what’s on your mind.
If we don’t have the plant you’re looking for, we’ll find it for you. We “specialize in special orders”.
We look forward to hearing from you.
